ROCKY MOUNTAINEER RAILTOURS offers "Rockies by Daylight" tours of the Canadian Rockies, to Jasper or Banff and Calgary. The Rocky Mountaineer makes morning departures from Vancouver and travels through the Fraser River Valley and the towering peaks of the Coastal Mountains, then enters Fraser Canyon.

The train coninues it's scenic trip following the Thompson River to Kamloops, arriving there by dinnertime. Overnight in Kamloops is included. The next morning, the Rocky Mountaineer continues in two sections, one to Jasper and the other to Banff and Calgary.     Top

The Jasper section follows the Thompson River into the snowy peaks of the Monashee Mountains. Guests will see Pyramid Falls and the expansive glaciers of the Albreda Icefields. A highlight of the trip is Mount Robson, which, at 12,972 feet, is the highest peak in the Canadian Rockies. Arrival in Jasper, located in the largest mountain park in Canada, is in the late afternoon.     Top

The Banff-Calgary section of the Rocky Mountaineer continues from Kamloops along the South Thompson River to Shuswap Lake, which has 1000 miles of shoreline. The train passes Craigellaichie, where tha "last spike" was driven to complete the Canadian Pacific Rwy in 1885. The train enters Rogers Pass, with glaciers, tunnels, and snowsheds, and follows the Kicking Horse River to Kicking Horse Pass and the Spiral Tunnels. The train crosses the continental divide and arrives in Banff and Banff National Park. Guests can end their tour here, or continue to Calgary.     Top

All travel is during daylight hours, so that none of the spectacular scenery is missed. The trip can be made in either direction, or round trip.

The Rocky Mountaineer offers two classes of service, RedLeaf and GoldLeaf. RedLeaf Service features reserved seats in fully reclining daynighter seats with large picture windows. Delicious breakfast and luncheon selections like British Columbia salmon and Alberta beef are served at your seat. Complimentary snacks, tea, coffee and soft drinks are available throughout the journey. Informative and interesting onboard commentary will add to your appreciation of the spectacular scenery. The onboard attendants speak English, French, German, Japanese and Mandarin.     Top

GoldLeaf Service features reserved seating in the Rocky Mountaineers' luxury full-length done car, putting you right in the middle of the awe-inspiring scenery of the Canadian Rockies. Beverages are served as you relax in your comfortable, roomy dome seat. The lower level GolfLeaf dining room has large picture windows and features white linen and fresh bouquets. Menu choices include regional cuisine created by onboard chefs.     Top

The Rocky Mountaineer's regular season is May-October. Interesting Winter Tours are offered with December departure dates. What a great time of the year to see the Canadian Rockies!
